Principal of Hale School in Perth has addressed his Year 12 students asking them not to make a competition out of the school ball.

Mr Meade stated many Perth students are competing to see how many balls they can be invited to.  As the director of schoolballs.com.au I tend to disagree in this generalised comment.  In my opinion and experience the culture of students attending a number of school balls is a private school thing more so than that of public school students.

Many public schools have ruled out students being allowed to invite partners from outside of their school or even their year cohort to their schools ball in a bid to reduce the duty of care of students of whom are not know to them. However, it is still quite a tradition in private schools to invite partners from the schools sister/brother school and elsewhere, hence many students going to multiple balls which could be seen as a competition.
