How to time the lead-up to your School Ball
There is a lot that you will need to consider in timing out the afternoon of your School ball. Often this is the first time you will be going to such a big event the sheer number of bookings and extra people that need to be considered can get to be too much. Read the guidelines below and of course you can eliminate anything that you won’t be doing. I will be focusing on the beauty side of things as this is my specialty, however I have taken everything into account
A lot of schools will give you the day off or at least half the day. I find that most people need this extra time in the afternoon as bookings with hairdressers, makeup artists have had to be bought earlier due to the increasing popularity of Pre-balls.
A week prior
*Hair cut or colour should be done now as you will be too busy for this to be done on the day of the ball.
A day or two Before
*This is the time to have your nails done especially if you plan to have acrylics put on. It is far better to put nail polish on the night before the ball when you have time to sit and let them dry, as on the day of the ball you will find knocking your nails will spoil the look.
*Spray tans should also be done at this stage. If you have never had one before err on the lighter side as you don't want to turn too orange.
*Wash your hair the night before
On the day of the ball
*Be nice to your mum and ask if she can collect any corsage (your partner should have this covered but I am a realist)
*Once you have come home from school firstly have a shower. Keeping hair Dry
*The hair styling should come next wear a button up shirt so you don't damage your hairstyle. Allow 1hr 1/4 for the appointment and add on any travel time.
*The makeup artist should then do the makeup, 1hr 1/4 before you need to leave
*You get into your dress 30 mins before you need to leave your house for the Pre- Ball
*Go to pre-ball into limo
*Off to ball
This timing should work as I have been using this format for many years and have found it to be extremely efficient. You can add or delete things as necessary and helps you to keep those things that don't need to be on the day of the ball separate.
I hope this has been helpful for those of you who have found the organizing a little daunting.
Beauty tips for preparing for your School Ball from Perth Makeup Artist Sharon Kyrwood.
For all those girls out there preparing for a school ball, or for their mum's trying to keep a lid on things. I will give you a few tips to make the organising of this important event a little smoother.
There is a lot to sort out from cars, flowers, dress to matching ties. I will concentrate on the beauty side of things as this is where my expertise lies.
This is not the time to do your own hair. Book a hair stylist, taking a photo of a style you like is always a good idea. Importantly if you are unhappy with the final look make sure you tell the hair stylist. I often have to fix girls hair when I arrive because they were too embarrassed to say something to the original stylist.
If you don't normally wear makeup, it would be my advise to hire a professional makeup artist. Going to a makeup counter is fine for those girls who wear makeup regularly. Please understand not all counter staff are Makeup Artists so may not be able to adapt to a more natural look. Booking early with popular artists is essential to avoid disappointment and get the best time. I often recommend getting a few friends together it can sometimes bring the cost down.
For your nails don't go too out there. Acrylics are beautiful but if you are not use to them you will spend the rest of the night fumbling around trying to pick things up. Keeping the colour neutral will be the best look. Trying to match the dress is sometime a huge mistake.
As far as fake tanning goes timing is important. This is not something you want to do for the first time the day of the ball. Imagine the tan going wrong and you end up looking like a orange pumpkin instead of a glowing beauty. Always err on the side of a lighter tan if you have to have it close to the day of the ball.
Timing on the day is essential your Hair should be done first leave plenty of time especially if you are going to a salon. Makeup should be finished about 30mins before you need to leave. Try to have everything else done on other days especially if you have to go to school on the day of the ball.
I hope some of this information has been helpful. Most of all have a Great time! Sharon Kyrwood Makeup Artistry

2011 Makeup Trends from ENVY
Makeup plays an important role when it comes to physical appearance and style so it is important to create the right look for each individual.
2011 will be introducing you to lots of Nude and Natural Makeup. A popular look leaving the skin looking flawless and beautiful, ensure you apply the foundation lightly to give the skin a natural glow. Subtle cheeks with a touch of blush, black mascara and a clear gloss finish this look off nicely.
Bare faces are going to be very popular with emphasis on the smokey eye using shades of blues, greys and black. The smokey eye is a favourite with most females as it has the power to completely change the look of the face or outfit. To set the summer trend eyes can also be bright in shades of green, blue, pink and orange.
If you are after a bold lip a light creamy shadow on the eyes is perfect paired with a lip colour in Red, Hot Pink, Orange, raspberry or Violet to grab attention (find the hue which suits your skin tone best). Cheekbones this season will be shades of bronze, orange, caramel or chocolate.
Don’t be afraid to experiment this season there are no rules when it comes to emphasis on eyes and lips. Why not dare to be different and choose a smokey eye and bold lip? The choice is yours....
